Media guru felicitated


Edwin Ariyadasa

The January issue of Media Today has felicitated the country's oldest living bilingual journalist Kalakeerthi Edwin Ariyadasa. The magazine has dubbed him as “Sri Lanka's media man of the era.”

Ariyadasa turned 91 on December 3 last year and still remains active as a practising journalist, media educator and television commentator. He was the first person to obtain an honours degree in Sinhala with English as the subsidiary subject from the University of Ceylon way back in 1945.

As a journalist he served on the editorial of many Lake House publications such as the Dinamina, Sunday Observer, Janatha, Daily News and was the editor of Navayugaya. Even today he contributes to the Sunday Observer, Dinamina and Silumina.

Dr Tudor Weerasinghe, Buddhadasa Galappatti, Prof Ajantha Hapuarachchi, Prof Chandrasiri Rajapaksha, Jayantha Rukmani Siriwardena and Prof Patrick Ratnayake have contributed to the felicitation volume.The magazine edited by Dineshara Punchihewa is a Creative Media publication.
