The nightly hunters

The cloudless sky, the golden moon
The soft breeze carrying the nightly scents,
Lying peacefully on a cushioned chair
I was enjoying a pleasing night.
Sitting on my lap my cat was purring
Its eyes were roaming behind flying insects.
Waiting them to fall or settle on the floor
What a tasteful dinner my cat was dreaming!
A white gecko with its protruding eyes
Was anxiously aiming at some moths on the wall
It wasn’t to kiss them, or to praise their beauty
But for the appetite the moths would fulfil.
It dashed at one, I saw the moth struggling
With its flimsy wings still trying to get free,
Then all at once a white small bat
Dashed on to the wall: Oh, where’s the gecko?
Fireflies were fluttering around the bushes
Glow worms were crawling here and there
Attracting their prey with their torches at the back
Aren’t they too hunters? I soliloquised.
Day or night, no difference is there
Hunters are in action, it’s all nature.
Strength and power wins the day
No one can change it, it’s the world’s way.
