Bank loans for electricity

Low-income families would be granted bank loans to obtain electricity to their dwelling places under a special project launched by the Ministry of Power and Energy as per instructions of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Accordingly, a low-income family would be granted with credit facilities amounting to a maximum of Rs. 40,000. The first stage of this program would be carried out in Administrative Districts of Ampara, Hambantota and Rathnapura.

"However, by the end of year 2014, the Government intends supplying electricity connections to all dwelling places in the country under "Mahinda Chintanaya" concept and the Asian Development Bank has granted 3.5 million American Dollars for this special project" said former Bingiriya Divisional Secretary W.E. Jayathilake, at a meeting of Grama Niladharis of the Kurunegala District held recently at Bingiriya National School, Kurunegala.
