Accidents on the rise

Over 9000 accidents had occurred from January 1 upto date in different parts of the country and of them, 800 persons have died of serious injuries. During 2013, around 52,000 drunken drivers had been arrested and produced before courts for legal action. During 2014 upto date, 15384 drunken drivers have been nabbed from various parts of the country and this number has been confirmed by the police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana.

To control this plight 200 education programs for passenger bus crews and three-wheeler drivers would be organised during next three months and school van drivers too would be adequately educated on the vital importance of refraining from consuming liquor while on duty, a senior SSP in Kurunegala told “Sunday Observer”.
