Electric fence costs Rs.163 million

Rs. 165 million has been allocated by the government for the construction of the proposed electric fence to safeguard villagers and farmers of the Kurunegala District from wild elephants said the NWP Chief Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara answering a question raised by Prasanna Shyamal Senerath, the UNP-NWP PC Councillor at the last monthly meeting of the NWP-PC.

NWP Chief Minister said further that necessary estimates are being prepared at present to construct the safety fence in the Puttalam District too against wild elephants.

"forty six farmers and residents had died of wild elephants' attacks during past two years in the NWP and hence priority would be given to the need of constructing safety fence against wild jumbos", the chief minister said.
