April festivities concluded with a flower show

The Nuwara Eliya April Festivities were concluded with the two day Annual Flower Show 'April Blooms' at the Victoria Park here with Ministers Navin Dissanayake, C. B. Ratnayake and other parliamentarians of the district and Mayor Mahinda Kumara, amidst a large gathering of holiday crowds.

A number of flower exhibits and floral decorations were in the show by local flower growers and commercial establishments for various categories. Handsome prizes were distributed among the winners by the Municipal Council authorities.

According to the organisers, one of the record crowds of holiday makers were present at the festivities, majority of them being members of the Muslim community.

One of the Council members M. Chandrian, said that the council had taken steps a to attract the holiday crowds and selected a higher area at Moonplains, from where the entire hill country and a panoramic view could be taken rather than the 'World's End' location at Horton Plains.
