Navy Commander attends joint shipping meeting
Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy and Chairman of the Ceylon Shipping
Corporation, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage visited Bangladesh from
April 30 to May 2 to attend the joint working group meeting on shipping
and connectivity between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
During the visit, the Navy Commander called on Bangladesh Minister of
Shipping, Hon. Shahjahan Khan and held cordial discussions related to
increasing trade and commerce through merchant shipping.
He also met Head of the Bangladesh Maritime Affairs Unit, Rear
Admiral (retd) Khurshid Alam.
The inaugural meeting, attended by officials from the Ministries of
External Affairs and Ports and Shipping of Sri Lanka as well as the
Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, focused on increasing
connectivity between Bangladesh and Sri Lankan ports, establishment of
coastal shipping services between the two South Asian nations as well as
shipping related issues.
