Away it goes ..... Undergraduate Lakshan Fernando hurls the
javelin to a new distance record at the Sri John Kotelawala
Defence University Meet held recently.

ATHLETICS: The annual sports meet of General Sir John Kotelawala
Defence University was held on 25th and 26th April 2014 at the Mahinda
Rajapaksa International Stadium in Diyagama, Homagama. Major General MP
Peiris RWP RSP USP ndc psc graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Undergraduate Lakshan Fernando, renewed his own record of javelin
throw which he set at the previous year's sports meet. In addition, he
won in shot putt with a new meet record too. Lakshan Fernando was an
outstanding sportsman produced by St. Joseph's College, Colombo in the
recent past who also captained St. Josephs athletics in 2010.
He was awarded "Josephian Blue" and the sportsman of the year 2009.
In addition, he is a National Colourman in Athletics.
Major General MP Peiris RWP RSP USP ndc psc, Vice Chancellor provides
all facilities and the fullest support to the undergraduate sportsmen of
the university to improve and to achieve high standards in sports.
Lakshan Fernando's coach Mr. Dilruk Nilantha is behind his
achievements in athletics from his school days.
Lakshan's father DIG Roshan Fernando, was an outstanding old Royalist
who captained Royal College athletics in 1979n and a superb athlete
during his days whose records are still unbreakable for 38 years.
