NCCSL lauds outgoing President
The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) in a media
release said it welcomed the new President Maithripala Sirisena and
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and wished them all success.
The Chamber appreciated the smooth transition of power and lauded the
outgoing President for promptly accepting the verdict of the people and
making arrangements for the new regime to take over. The Chamber
particularly congratulated the Commissioner of Elections for the
exemplary conduct of the Presidential Elections, and for the firm stand
taken to ensure the democratic process and the will of the people
prevailed.
Sri Lanka has made rapid progress in the past few years and the new
Government is determined to take steps to ensure good governance,
transparency, strengthen independent institutions and the establishment
of the rule of law.
The National Chamber will provide its fullest support for these
initiatives. The Chamber welcomes the setting up of a National Advisory
Council, which will further promote democracy.
The Chamber, with over 630 members, is a reservoir of knowledge and
experience and calls upon the new Government to consult the National
Chamber and all chambers in its policy making process, to ensure that
all such policies are well thought out and have a greater probability of
acceptance. |
