Kidney patient appeals for donations

Nineteen-year-old S.A.N. Rangani Fernando of 5th Lane, 52/21, P.M. Fernando Road, Moratuwa is suffering from chronic renal failure.

Consultant Nephrologist Dr. A.L.M. Nazar, Colombo National Hospital has recommended kidney transplantation.

As she finds it difficult to foot the medical bill, she appeals for public contributions to be remitted to A/c No. 100 208 875 553 National Savings Bank, Moratuwa.

 


Seminar on 'Graphics and Multimedia' at SLIP

The Sri Lanka Institute of Printing (SLIP) has organised a workshop on 'Graphic Design and Multimedia Education' on Saturday January 24 from 8.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. at the Institute premises, 118, Danister de Silva Mawatha, Department of Government Printing, Colombo 8.

The seminar intends to give an exposure and understanding of the use of essential graphic software packages in the industry.


Ex-Minister's mother passes away

Leelawathie Podimenike (91), mother of former Irrigation, Water Resources and Water Management Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva passed away yesterday.

A mother of eight children, she was a retired teacher. The body is now lying at the former minister's residence in Badulla and will be taken to her residence, Somi Kelum at Kandana tomorrow.

The cortège will leave her residence tomorrow. Burial at Kandana public cemetery.


Guitar Fest 2015

The fifth festival of Guitar music 'Guitar Fest 2015' will be held on January 24 at the Nava Ranga Hala Royal College, Colombo and on February 1 at the Sudhasuna Hall, Chilaw.

Foreign guitarists from Japan, Iran and Romania will participate Anthony Surendra (Fusion), Jude Pieris (classical), Derek Wickramanayake (Rock), Mohomed Iqbal (Trova), Upula Madushanka (Bass), Andrew Obeysekara (Heavy metal), Rohan Silva (Hawaiian), Ken Gonzo Sugamata (Japan), Charles (Netherlands) and young guitarists will also perform. It is open to the public.


Zahira College Photo Competition

The Green Zahira Society of Zahira College has organised an inter-school photography competition on 'Biodiversity' on January 21 and 22 in the school lawn. Over 100 students from several schools are expected to participate in the event.

Director, MBC Channel and head of Sirasa FM, Kingsley Ratnayake will be the chief guest while Principal, Trizvi Marikkar the special guest with Deputy Editor of Daily Mirror and an old boy of Zahira Ramesh Uvais will be the special guest.


Visakha past hostellers get-together

A get-together organised for past hostel students of Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo will be held on Saturday, January 24 from 9 am to 3 pm at the school premises.

It will coincide with the Children's Day celebration for hostellers organised by the Visakha Vidyalaya Old Girls' Association. The event is coordinated by Nadeeja Abeydeera (0773741810).
