Govt won’t withdraw Army Formations in N-E

State Defence Minister Ruwan Wijewardene on his first official visit to the North and the East said that the Government would not withdraw any Army Formations in the peninsula or plans to scale down security arrangements, the official website of the Sri Lanka Army said.

“National Security will remain the priority of our Government and there is no change in that policy under any circumstances. Members of the Security Forces should not believe in rumours and fabricated stories on security concerns.”

I assure you that the Government would not dismantle any Army Formations in the peninsula, nor does the Government plan to scale down security arrangements”, the Minister told the troops. Minister Wijewardene said that all members of the Security Forces would continue to receive welfare facilities as at present and the dignity the profession deserves. Similarly, steps would be taken to further increase such welfare benefits with new programs.

With the objective of enhancing the professional knowledge of the Security Forces, more opportunities for various study and vocational courses would be made available while expanding possibilities for new UN openings in foreign capitals, including the one in Haiti.
