Peterites beat Royal after eight years

A fine team effort by St.Peter’s helped them to beat Royal by eight wickets after eight years in their Singer Under 19 school cricket encounter at Bambalapitiya yesterday.The Peterites last won in 2007 by threewickets at Reid Avenue.

After scoring 284 in the first innings, the Peterite bowlers rallied round and inserted the pressure onthe Royal batsmen to dismiss them for 138 in their first innings.Navin Vidanapathirana stood firm for Royal top scoring in both innings with gallant knocks of 42 and following on striking another 85.

In reply to the Peterites first innings total of 284 the Royalists were 19 for 3 overnight and were shot out for a disappointing 138. Ashanth Malka 4 for 47 and ChandulaJayamanne 3 for 21 were the chief wicket takers. Royal following on with a deficit of 146 runs made 193. Vinu Mohotty ran through their batting capturing 6 for 85)

A fine display of off spin bowling by Sammu Ashan who had a match bag of ( 9 for 108) and useful spells by Isuru Deleepa were the highlights in the drawn Singer Under 19 school cricket match between Ananda and Dharmaraja for the P.W.Perera memorial trophy concluded at Ananda Mawatha yesterday.

Dharmaraja who were made to follow on with a deficit of 121 runs after being dismissed for 190 in their first innings in reply to Ananda’s 311 for 9 declared hung on till the end with nine wickets down for 125 runs when stumps were drawn on the second day.
