The stars that shone on the cricket field

The stars that shone on the cricket field will never be forgotten.

Sri Lanka's Arjuna Ranatunga, Aravinda de Silva, Asanka Gurusinha, then there was West Indian Vivian Richards ans also Australian Ricky Ponting have carved out a name for themselwes with their fine preformances on the field.
 


Aravinda de Silva played an excellent innings to make 107 not out and get Sri Lanka past the Australian score to be 245 for 3 wickets. Australia earlier made 241 for 7 wickets in their 50 overs. He was picked as the player of the final.


Asanka Gurusinha made a elegant innings of 65 for Sri Lanka in the final which helped Sri Lanka to make 245 for 3 wickets in 46.2 overs.

 


Arjuna Ranatunga 47, with Aravinda de Silva and Ranatunga carried the Lankans through to victory.


 


Vivian Richards of West Indies 138 not out pulled West Indies through to win the 1979 Prudential Cup. West Indies made 286 for 9 wickets in 60 overs and England were all out for 194 thereby West Indies won the final that year by 92 runs.
 


Ricky Ponting will 140 not out helped Australia to 359 for 2 wkts in 50 overs and India were all out for 234 in 2003. Australia won by 125 runs.
