C. W. Mackie introduces new flavour to market
C. W. Mackie PLC, the local bottling, distributing and marketing
partner of the international Danish brand ‘Sunquick’ added a new flavour
- Sunquick Gold, to the local market recently.
“Our company will be exploring the possibility of increasing local
value addition. As we import the fruit pulp and some of the input, we
maintain a value addition of around 49 percent at present, C. W. Mackie
PLC Chairman, W T Ellawala said.
"The company cannot take decisions to increase the local input being
an international brand marketeer. We will explore the possibility of
increasing the percentage of local value addition apart from the labour
component and the bottling and labelling which is done locally," he
said.
Sunquick is available in many parts of the world. It is made using a
37-year-old original Danish recipe. It does not contain any artificial
sweeteners or colours or flavours.
"However, we have found that the flavour is a little too sour for the
local palette and there has been a noted preference for a less sour
flavour
Hence, Sunquick formulated their new product which is more suited to
the local palette. ‘Sunquick Gold’ is such a product, he said.Consumer
tests conducted showed that there is a market opportunity for a sweeter
version of the local component of the product of Sunquick, Ellawala
said. Apart from Sunquick, Scan Products Division manufactures, imports
and distributes FMCG products, specialising in food and beverages.
