Moratuwa Battle of the Golds ends in a tame draw

The Battle of the Golds between Moratu Vidyalaya and Sri Sumangala College Panadura ended in a tame draw at Tyronne Fernando Stadium, Moratuwa yesterday with Vidyalians carrying away major honours at the 63rd encounter.

Batting first Sumangalians scored 179 runs with Nadeera Ruskshan making the top score of 41 runs while Vishwa Yasas contributed 31 runs and Shanuka Madushan bowled best for Vidyalians with 4 for 28.

In reply, Vidyalians declared at 240 for 9 with Shanuka Madushan 78, Dushan Sulakshana 64 and Harsha Devinda not out on 36 runs. Kaumal Nanayakkara claimed 3 for 43 runs for Sumangalians. At stumps, visitors were 145 for 8 with Kushan Akalanka unbeaten on 79 runs with nine fours and Deshan Devuranga bagged 3 for six runs.

Sri Sumangala College: 179 all out (Naduru Ruskshan 41, Harith Lakshan 23, Vishwa Yasas 31, Shanuka Madushan 4 for 28, Nipun Randika 2 for 24, Harsha Devinda 2 for 31) 2nd innings 145-8 (Harith Lakshan 24, Kushan Akalanka 79 n.o, Heshan Danushka 24, Dushan Sulakshana 2/33, Deshan Devuranga 3 for six runs)

Moratu Vidyalaya: 240-9 declared (Dushan Sulakshana 64, Shanuka Madushan 78, Harsha Devinda 36 n.o, Kaumal Nanayakkara 3 for 43, Heshan Danushka 2 for 29).
