Boost for SL-Seychelles ties

Sri Lanka-Seychelles ties received a turbo boost with the launch of
the second edition of the Food and Hotels Seychelles (FHS) 2015
international trade fair last week. The trade fair will be held in
Victoria, Seychelles from October 23-25.

Sri Lanka and Seychelles have maintained healthy relations with
immense scope to tap the potential for tourism between the two
countries. Both countries share similarities in culture and natural
beauty.
Ties between the two countries strengthened with the launch of direct
flights by Mihin Lanka to Mahe which opened doors to the African
continent. Sri Lankan entities in the hotel, construction and banking
sector have set up operations in Seychelles which is an emerging market
for global trade and tourism.
With a population of around 90,000 people spread across 150 islands,
Seychelles attracts around 300,000 visitors each year.
The country has around 9,000 hotel rooms in over 30 large hotels and
resorts. Seychelles which is home to some of the finest and cleanest
beaches is a popular tourist destination. The per capita income in the
country is US$ 24,000.
"We are a smiling people and would always love to have people from
around the world visit Seychelles and explore its scenic beauty. We have
a lot to offer visitors. We expect more Sri Lankans to visit Seychelles
this year and enjoy the fun and beauty of the country," CEO, Small
Enterprises Promotion Agency of Seychelles, Penny Belmont said.
"It is easy to start a business in Seychelles but sustaining it is a
uphill task. Seychelles hopes to be a hub for business with Africa,"
Belmont said.
The exhibition is held parallel to the Seychelles creole festival, a
mega cultural event in the country.
The objective of the exhibition is to facilitate trade between
exhibitors across the world, offering products and services needed by
the hotel industry in Seychelles.
Managing Director, CDC Events, Imran Hassan said the FHS is an ideal
platform for all local and international food and hotel suppliers to
meet resort personnel and build business ties.
The exhibition will will be an occasion for exporters from Sri Lanka
to explore new business avenues in the African region. CDC Events will
help participants achieve their business expectations.
