Zebra Technologies to expand operations

Zebra Technologies Lanka (Pvt) Limited is bullish about the Sri Lankan market and hopes to expand its operations further.

"We will be moving to a spacious place shortly and will be looking for more business in terms of research and development. We will consolidate our operations in Sri Lanka as we consider Asia Pacific to be the fastest growing markets," said Director, Zebra Technologies, Anuradha Tennakoon said.

"Our most valuable resource is our staff of over 65 skilled engineers. After the acquisition by Motorola Solution Enterprise Division in 2014, the Sri Lankan arm became a fully-owned subsidiary of Zebra Technologies Corporation, USA. It considers the Sri Lankan entity as a strategic software research and development centre and continues to invest in its people and technology.

Zebra Technologies' state-of-the-art Sri Lanka R&D Centre at Nawala is one of the most advanced software research and development outfits in Sri Lanka.

The entity will benefit in terms of increased headcount, investment in newer technology and in skills development for Sri Lankan engineers.

The R&D centre is considered one of the most advanced embedded software development centres in the country.

The company's revenue from software exports from 2009 to 2014 has been as average of Rs. 215 million a year. Zebra Technologies was set up in 1999 under the purview of the BOI to develop software for export.
