Cherie Blair at BASL lecture
The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) will hold a lecture on 'Human
Rights in Business' at 4 pm on Tuesday August 25 at the Dr. H.W.
Jayawardene auditorium.
The resource person will be Cherie Blair CBE, QC who has over 35
years' experience as a leading barrister, specializing in public
international law, human rights, arbitration and mediation.
She has represented over 30 governments and numerous multinational
corporations in international disputes.
She will reflect upon some of her recent experiences advising
multinational corporations on the integration of the UN Guiding
Principles on Business and Human Rights.
EDB clinches talent award
The Export Development Board (EDB), Sri Lanka's apex export
facilitator, clinched a global talent award and has emerged as a pioneer
Lankan public institution to win the accolade.
"The EDB won the Most Sought After Employer award at the Asia's Best
Employer Brand Awards 2015. We won this award having competed with 33
countries," said Chairman and CEO Bandula Egodage.
Asia's Best Employer Brand Awards, hosted by the Employer Branding
Institute, World HRD Congress and Stars of the Industry Group, is
endorsed by the Asian Confederation of Businesses.
Monkey Kingdom to boost tourism
Sri Lanka Tourism spring-boarding on the US success of the epic $16.4
million film Monkey Kingdom, directed by Mark Linfield and Alastair,
will screen the French version of the movie, Au Royaume des Singes, for
travel trade professionals in Paris, France in November.
The film made its debut at the Excel Cinema last week. It will be
shown across the country by EAP Films.
This is the eighth True Adventure film and the sixth released
theatrically by Disney Nature, the independent film label of Walt Disney
Studio. The last such documentary fetched $35 million in ticket sales.
YMF marks Int'l Youth Day
The Young Members Forum (YMF) of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce,
conducted a program at the Sarvodaya Suwasetha Sewa Society Limited,
Moratuwa to mark International Youth Day.
The YMF distributed dry rations and other essential items to teenaged
mothers.
The Society maintains eight child development centres, one special
child development centre for teenaged mothers, five pre-schools, four
elders homes including one home for women with disabilities and special
needs. Ma Sevana provides residential care and protection for teenaged
mothers who are victims of sexual abuse and become pregnant as a result
of rape or incest. Girls as young as 12 reside in this home. |
