Training program for Parliamentary staff
A three-day program on capacity building for the parliamentary
secretariat staff was held at the Citrus Hotel Wadduwa recently. It was
funded by the UNAIDS to improve the functioning of Parliament through a
capacity development program for three levels of staff.
Day three, dedicated to senior leaders, was opened by the Speaker of
Parliament Karu Jayasuriya.
Secretary General of Parliament, Dhammika Dassanayake outlined the
objectives of the program and the need to transform Parliament staff to
be of greater value to all stakeholders by acquiring modern, creative
and efficient leadership techniques and best practices on team work.
MD and CEO, Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC, Kishu Gomes, the only
resource person representing the private sector, spoke on 'Modern-day
leadership demands for optimum results through team-work'.
He covered many aspects of leadership development and performing as a
team including; Understanding the role of a manager versus leader,
Leadership environment challenges for leaders to navigate, Challenges in
creating a unified culture for single direction and focus, Putting in
place compliance and conformance environment to support it, Building a
high performing team with a passionate workforce and making them
accountable, Revolutionary leadership to motivate people to enhance
productivity and Winning in the eyes of others.
Among the other resource persons were Retired Judge of the Supreme
Court Justice Shirani Thilakawardena academic professors. |
