UPFA looking for alliance

The UPFA hopes to form a strong alliance to contest the upcoming Local Government elections and many parties have unofficially informed the UPFA Secretary of their consent to unite with the UPFA, UPFA General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera said.

The initial discussions will be held with the UPFA and the Joint Opposition will come to an agreement to contest the elections. “Unless there is an objection to our views, I am ready to make any commitment to unite the party,” he said. For example, the UPFA would never agree with racist propaganda and would not join hands with a party that promotes it.

Due to the unofficial agreements, the official discussions will proceed smoothly.

“I believe there won’t be any disputes in coming to an agreement with the other parties,” he said.

The Fisheries Minister was appointed the General Secretary of the UPFA on March 8, following the demise of the former General Secretary Prof. Vishwa Warnapala.
