Qigong arrives in SL

The first ever International Health Qigong Programme conducted by the International Health Qigong Federation, Chinese Health Association and Sri Lanka Health Qigong Association will be held from March 19 to 21 at River face Hotel- Rajagiriya, with the inaugural ceremonies held at the same venue from 8.30 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. on March 16.

Qigong is an ancient Chinese health care system that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intention. The word Qigong (Chi Kung) is made up of two Chinese words. Qi is pronounced chee and is usually translated to mean the life force or vital-energy that flows through all things in the universe. Health Qigong is believed to help enhance the energy of internal organs and hence heal many diseases including high blood pressure and diabetics.

The International Programme, apart from introducing Health Qigong as a lifestyle and sport, will focus on the immense health benefits Health Qigong can offer its practitioners. It will also provide much-needed expertise in Health Qigong from the International Federation.

The inaugural International Health Qigong Programme will have Minister of Sports, Dayasiri Jayasekara as the Chief Guest, Minister of Petroleum Resources Development Chandima Weerakkody as the Guest of Honour. Also attending the event will be Zhang De Ming, Vice President of International Health Qigong Federation and Cultural Secretary of Chinese Embassy

Chinese Health Qigong Association (CHQA), founded in April 2004 and a member of All-China Sports Federation, is a national sport for all society promoting, popularising and researching health qigong. It dedicates itself to developing the traditional Chinese health culture, advocating and organizing activities of healthy and civilised qigong, carrying out sporting exchanges with foreign countries and serving to improve the people's health.

Qigong

There are various forms of Qigong, some are done with no movement at all, in standing, sitting and supine positions, some with gentle movements and some with movements mixed with stretching of the body or dynamic exertion of power. There are more than 10,000 styles of qigong and 200 million people practice them all over China and the world.

Health Qigong is a system comprising some of the oldest Qigong in China, they are Yi Jin Jing, Ba Duan Jin, Wu Qin Xi, Liu Zi Jue and Twelve Duan Jin, these Qigong all have more than 1000 years of history.

Sri Lanka Health Qigong Association (SLHQA)

Sri Lanka Health Qigong Association (SLHQA) was founded in 2009, at the International Chinese Qigong Exchange Program held in Shanghai. SLHQA is the only registered and licensed association with International Health Qigong Federation (IHQF). It is the 47th Country to be registered in the IHQF. SLHQA holds the membership of Marketing Commission in IHQF and it had contributed to improve and promote Qigong across the world since 2009. SLHQA has internationally trained trainers on Qigong, certified by the Chinese Health Qigong Federation (CHQF) and IHQF.

During past seven years, SLHQA has been involving in various activities such as International Qigong promotional conferences, competitions and trainings with the collaboration of IHQF. As a result of utmost efforts, SLHQA has succeeded in winning three gold medals and a silver medal at the 2nd International Health Qigong Competition, which was held from September 12-14, 2015 in Bozhou, China.
