The Stone Flower

The Russian Centre in Colombo and the Colombo Classical Ballet Circle will present a DVD screening (with English subtitles) of The Stone Flower a Ballet in 3 Acts, at the Russian Centre Auditorium on March 18 at 3.30 p.m. The Stone Flower is the last ballet for which Sergei Prokofiev wrote music, and is based on a P. Bazhov fairy tale story from the Urals, a mixture of real-life scenes and fantastic dreams, of classical dance and folk choreography.

In the words of the ballet's choreographer, Yuri Grigorovich, the story concerns "the fate of the stone carver, Danila, who wishes to see the full power of the stone and show its beauty to the people. The creative urge which possesses Danila and the desire to create more perfect art is the leitmotif of the ballet."

For further details, call the Cultural Officer on weekdays between 9.30 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. on 0112685440/0112685429

A video clipping of life during the Second World War in Europe will also be screened.
