Ambewela celebrates Mother's Day

Every single day of the year is 'Mother's Day' for Lanka Milk Foods (CWE) PLC, the parent company of the Ambewela brand and makers of a full range of dairy products, "because milk is the first gift, along with love, that a mother gives her child all year round," said Director Operations K.L. W. Harischandra.

Reflecting on the occasion of Mother's Day, Harischandra said, "Milk is the first thing that a child receives and it is what helps form the first bond between mother and child."

"Lanka Milk Foods is acutely aware of the fact that mothers always try to give their children nothing but the best. This is why we strive for the best in quality and why we pride ourselves in being 'The Nation's Premium Milk'.

Mother's Day, for us, is a celebration that in fact affirms everything we believe in when it comes to the dairy industry, in particular' trust, excellence in quality, and nurturing," he added. The Ambewela farm, set up in 1945 with Danish expertise, was acquired by Lanka Milk Foods in 2001. Located at an elevation of 6000 ft, it is the best environment for healthy cows.

Moreover, the company boasts of the pioneer ISO certified UHT (Ultra Heat Treatment) milk processing plant in Sri Lanka. After the acquisition and thanks to an unwavering commitment to upgrading and modifications, the milk yield has showed a ten-fold increase.

However, it is not the volume that the company is most concerned about. It is the quality. Mothers, after all, are the most discerning purchasers of milk foods. This is why a lot of energy and investment has gone into providing the best for the children of Sri Lanka.

Instead of opting for sterilization which destroys nutrients and leaves a burnt taste, the Ambewela plant treats the milk at 140 degrees centigrade for just 4 seconds. Nothing is added or subtracted to the milk. Most importantly only the milk from the Ambewela farms is used because only this guarantees the quality of the milk offered to consumers. Together with this, superior packaging that ensures a bacteria-free product, allows a shelf life of 6 months. Therefore, it is a ready-to-drink milk carton that is distributed to the discerning mothers of the nation.

And it's not just milk. In addition to fresh full cream milk, Ambewela also produces non-fat milk, yoghurt and a full range of cheeses of international quality. To this product range the company introduced a yoghurt drink as well, in March 2016.

"It is for all these reasons that we consider every day of the year as a day in which mothers and motherhood should be celebrated and that's exactly what we do, throughout the year," Harischandra said.
