Teacher recruitment before June

All provinces should finalise teacher recruitment for Science, Mathematics and English before the end of June this year, a media release stated.

This was decided on at a progress review meeting held recently with the participation of Provincial Education Secretaries, PSC Secretaries and the Secretary to the Ministry of Education.

Some schools had not received any applications for vacancies. The list of such schools will be displayed at the location of the interviews and applicants present will then be offered the option of selecting schools from the list, the release added. The dearth of Physical Training Instructors (PTIs) was also discussed.

There are 1,246 PTI vacancies in provincial and national schools, the release stated.

The current output of PTIs from Uva Bindunwewa, Vavuniya National Colleges and national universities would not fill these vacancies, it added..

School Development Societies, Past Pupils Associations, Parent Teachers Associations, Teachers' Unions and others could express their views .
