Vesak pinkama at Mahindaramaya from May 20-22

A Vesak pinkama will be held at the Maradana Sri Mahindaramaya from May 20 to 22, organised by the Vihara Dayake Sabha and students and parents and the staff of the Mahindarama Daham Pasala, under the patronage of Viharadhipathi Ven. Mapalane Dhammaloka Thera. The highlights will include an Atavisi Buddha and Bodhi Pooja on May 20 and 21, release of cattle destined for slaughter and a Vesak Bhakthi Gee recital on Vesak Poya Day, followed by a mass Sil campaign on May 22.


Book launch today

The book Facts of Universal Existence in Brief authored by Wijerathne Weerakkody will be launched at the Horana Town Hall auditorium at 9.30 a.m. today. The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Edwin Ariyadasa.

The book consists of a series of articles about the author's understanding of the concepts of universe, space, time and life.


Ayush schols for Lankans

The High Commission of India in Colombo will offer scholarships for Sri Lankans under the 'Ayush Scholarship Scheme' for UG, PG, Ph.D courses in the Indian traditional system of medicine.

The scholarships cover full tuition fees and a monthly allowance, accommodation and an annual grant. Candidates should send their CV in the format prescribed by the Ministry of Higher Education along with supporting documents to the Ministry, 18 Ward Place, Colombo 7 on or before May 17.

The application forms can be downloaded from www.mohe.gov.lk. Students may visit www.indianmedicine.nic.in for information.


Bharatha Natyam recital by Thushyanthy

The Bharatha Natyam recital "Ma you are divine" dedicated to the Motherhood of the world, by Thushyanthy Velauthan will be held at the Indian Cultural Centre auditorium, on Friday, May 13 at 6.00 p.m. Gregory's Road, Colombo 7.

Thushyanthy learnt Bharatha Natyam from her childhood from eminent gurus Rahini Muralitharasarma, Rathika Mahadeva and Nalayini Rajathurai and is now practising and performing at the Abhinayakshetra School of Dance, Colombo. She has held several performances in Sri Lanka and abroad.
