World Press Photo Foundation and KidsRights
Foundation launch collaboration to highlight children’s rights:
Show that will go places
The World Press Photo Foundation and the KidsRights Foundation have
entered into collaboration. and are organizing a dual exhibition that
will travel to various locations in the Netherlands between July 2016
and July 2017.
Thematic presentations
This initiative serves as a prelude to a multi-year partnership
during which the organizations will develop a variety of joint projects,
such as thematic presentations that will travel internationally, master
classes and a children’s jury. The KidsRights exhibition “The
International Children’s Peace Prize” will be shown alongside the World
Press Photo 16 exhibit in Zutphen and Naarden.
Photography and storytelling
In 2017 the dual exhibition will be in Amsterdam. The collaboration
was launched by the managing director of the World Press Photo
Foundation Lars Boering, and Marc Dullaert, founder and chairman of
KidsRights, at the opening of the dual exhibition. Especially designed
for the collaboration with World Press Photo, the exhibition ‘The
International Children’s Peace Prize’ uses photography and storytelling
to illustrate the extraordinary work of the young winners.
The International Children’s Peace Prize is awarded annually to a
child who fights courageously for children’s rights. Every year, the
message of the new young winner has enormous impact and demonstrates to
millions of people globally that change is possible.
Previous winners include Nkosi Johnson, who fought for the rights of
children with AIDS, and Malala Yousafzai, who won the International
Children’s Peace Prize in 2013 before winning the Nobel Peace Prize in
2014.
Best images
The World Press Photo 16 exhibition showcases the best images of the
year, awarded during the foundation’s annual photography contest. The
exhibition travels to 100 cities and 45 countries, reaching a global
audience of four million people each year.
Managing director of the World Press Photo Foundation Lars Boering
said “The World Press Photo Foundation is committed to promoting freedom
of speech and expression through the best visual journalism, and we do
that wherever possible in partnership with like-minded organizations.
KidsRights shares these values and we are proud to work together. The
dual exhibition will hopefully be just the first step. We would like to
have an on-going partnership during which we will develop a variety of
joint projects, such as thematic exhibitions that will travel
internationally, master classes and working with a children’s jury.”
Founder and chairman of the KidsRights Foundation Marc Dullaert said,
“The winners of the Children’s Peace Prize show that children are so
much more than passive recipients of aid, they can bring actual change.
Improving lives of children
The exhibition shows their struggle, yet most of all it shows their
action and projects to improve the lives of children in their
communities and beyond. Amazing stories to inspire us all.
I am very proud that alongside the World Press Photo exhibition, we
have an opportunity to demonstrate this positive message of children as
change-makers for children’s rights.,” he said. The locations and dates
for the dual exhibition are: Zutphen: De Walburgiskerk, July 15 - August
4, Naarden: De Grote Kerk, August 6 - 27 2016 m, De Nieuwe Kerk, April
15– July 9 2017.
International Childrens Peace Prize
The International Children’s Peace Prize is awarded annually to a
child who fights courageously for children’s rights.
Every year, the message of the new young winner has enormous impact
and demonstrates to millions of people globally that change is possible.
The International Children’s Peace Prize is an initiative of Marc
Dullaert, founder of the KidsRights Foundation. It was launched in 2005
during the Nobel Peace Laureates’ Summit in Rome, chaired by Mikhail
Gorbachev.
The International Children’s Peace Prize is presented by a Nobel
Peace Laureate. Each year, the expert committee of the Prize receives
nominations from countries all over the world.
Remarkable, but often unknown, brave children have been discovered
through the annual nomination process.
About The KidsRights Foundation:KidsRights is an international
non-governmental organization that promotes the wellbeing of very
vulnerable children across the world and advocates the realisation of
their rights.
KidsRights strives for a world where all children have access to
their rights and are enabled to realise the great potential they carry
within them.
Change-makers
KidsRights sees children as change-makers with the power to move the
world, and facilitates in voicing their opinions and taking action in
order to bring about change. KidsRights supports children by commanding
global attention for the realisation of children’s rights and acting as
a catalyst to ignite change, together with children and youths.
We support this with research and action. To gain insight into the
status of children’s rights, KidsRights frequently conducts research.
The Foundation also finances local projects aimed at directly
improving the rights of vulnerable children and stimulating child
participation and change-making by youths.
Voice to the voiceless
The International Children’s Peace Prize is one of the most important
platforms KidsRights facilitates. As Desmond Tutu, Nobel Peace Prize
winner and patron of KidsRights, says: ‘KidsRights seeks to give a voice
to the voiceless.’
