'Young Chartered Accountants' appoint new council

Every country, organization and family needs a younger generation to continue its existence and the same applies to a profession, President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka), Lasantha Wickremasinghe told members of the Young Chartered Accountants Forum (YCAF) at its annual general meeting recently.

The YCAF which comprises chartered accountants below 40 years of age.

"To ensure the continued progression of our profession, we need highly intelligent and skilled members for our existence, and our profession has been truly fortunate to have both intelligence and skills in our young members," he said.Wickremasinghe said that as the young generation of the chartered accounting profession, it was the responsibility of the young members to not be limited to discharging their duties only to the organization they serve for, but they should play an active role in helping steer and ensuring that the prestigious legacy CA Sri Lanka commands today, continues in the future. "Although we always look up to our seniors for guidance, it is ultimately the dynamic younger generation who will steer us to the future, hence ensuring that you are second to none is your institute's primary duty," he said.

He congratulated outgoing YCAF President Dulitha Perera for his role in uniting young CA Sri Lanka members.

Chartered Accountant Vindya Cooray was appointed President of the Governing Council for 2016/17.

Ms. Cooray said that young chartered accountants play a vital role in shaping the future. "The aim of the YCAF is to provide a platform for young members to develop their leadership and entrepreneurial skills by conducting various programs in these areas and providing them opportunities to network with colleagues," she said.

Co-Founder of wow.lk and former Chairman of The Board of Investment, Sri Lanka, Thilan Wijesinghe shared his experience and thoughts on the importance of technology and social media in the new era.
