UNP’s 70th convention:
President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister
Ranil Wickremesinghe, addressing the 70th convention of the United
National Party (UNP), pledged that the two main parties will work
together to rebuild the country while introducing comprehensive
political reforms, including the proposed new Constitution. ¨Let us
forget our differences and ideologies to move forward as a country by
adopting newer ideologies to fit the modern world,”
Two top level committees have been appointed by the
national unity Government to finalise the Budget proposals. Minister of
Finance Ravi Karunanayke said that a committee comprising himself, the
Prime Minister and Dr. Sarath Amunugama has been appointed to discuss
and finalise the Budget proposals.
‘We need more youth, women’:
The Independent Elections Commission, set up under
the 19th Amendment fulfilling a Yahapalana pledge of the National Unity
Government, will be put to test early next year, when the Local
Government election is held islandwide, under rather crucial
circumstances.
