Two committees to finalise Budget proposals

Two top level committees have been appointed by the national unity
Government to finalise the Budget proposals.
Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayke said that a committee comprising
himself, the Prime Minister and Dr. Sarath Amunugama has been appointed
to discuss and finalise the Budget proposals.
Secretary to the Finance Ministry, Dr. Samarathunga said that this ad
hoc committee will look into budget proposals amongst other things. This
has been proposed by the cabinet sub-committee on economic management.
Meanwhile President Maithripala Sirisena also appointed a committee
of ministers of the SLFP to oversee the Budget proposals. Speaking to
the Sunday Obsever State Minister of Finance said that the President has
appointed a committee comprising Ministers Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Anura
Priyadarshana Yapa, Mahinda Amaraweera, Duminda Dissanayake, Lakshman
Yapa Abeywardena and Dayasiri Jayasekara. “This committee was appointed
by the President to make sure that the Budget proposals for the 2017
fiscal year would be in line with SLFP policies. Whatever is being put
forward has to voice the SLFP manifesto as well,” he said.
The Budget for the 2017 fiscal year will be presented in Parliament
in early November. |
