SLAF ’copters fight Knuckles fire

SLAF helicopters flew 12 sorties to drop water in an effort to douse a forest fire in the Knuckles mountain range yesterday, Air Force sources said. Officials told the Sunday Observer that while the fire had not yet been completely put out, they had succeeded in blocking the spread toward nearby communities.

 

Lasantha’s body to be exhumed


Over seven years after the assassination, the slain Sunday Leader editor Lasantha Wickrematunga’s body will be exhumed on September 27, on the orders of the Mount Lavinia Magistrate Mohamed Saafdeen. The order was made following a request by the CID to exhume the body.
