A former Parliamentarian was sentenced to death
for the first time in the country’s recent history when the Colombo
High Court decided to impose the death penalty on former MP Duminda
Silva and four others in connection with Bharatha Lakshman
Premachandra’s murder. Duminda Silva, a close ally of former
President Mahinda Rajapaksa at one point,

The attack on SL envoy in Malaysia:
Independent observers have raised doubts over
the manner in which Malaysian law enforcement is handling the probe
into the attack on the Sri Lankan envoy by suspected LTTE
supporters. Both, Government and Opposition legislators in Sri
Lanka, including TNA Leader R.Sampanthan condemned the shocking
attack in the strongest possible manner when Parliament met on
Monday,
