Expectations high at Vidyartha

Another exciting cricket season awaits the cricket-loving public in the hill capital as the old boys, well wishers and supporters of Vidyartha College, Kandy are eager with expectations high for another competitive 2016/2017 season.

Vidyartha College Kandy, started cricket in 1952 has reached great heights with limited facilities . This season too, they are hoping to do well, Vidyartha has produced several top cricketers and some have done their alma- Mater proud by some sterling performances.

It has produce many outstanding cricketers who went on to play at district level and some as national poolists.

This year too the side is coached by one of their proud products Sanjaya de Silva. He played for Vidyartha from junior level, and was in the senior side from 1999 to 2002. During his playing days he was a right arm off spinner who pocketed many wickets. After leaving school he played for Ambalangoda Rio and later for Kandy CC and Kandy YSC.

After a successful stint with the club he took coaching as a career and was in charge of Vidyartha at junior level and later at Dharmaraja College.

Thereafter he was attached to Triintiy College and gave his best for the juniors and in 2013 and '14 he was the junior head coach and was impressive.

Last season he gave his best for his old school Vidyartha .According to him the school has some talented cricketers who need to be guided .

Leading Vidyartha this season is Ravishka Lakshan Upananda blessed with a good knowledge of the game. He is a steady right hand batsman and a good right arm medium pacer. Last season he scored heavily and this season too much is expected from him .

This year Vidyartha takes the field with two vice captains, Nimesh Senanayake and Sahan Danwatte both extremely talented.
