‘KPIs’ to be introduced next year:
The Sri Lanka Police is to implement the KPI (Key
Performance Indicator) system to streamline operations and evaluate
the performance of the Department. After implementation, the KPIs
will be the key factor determining performance assessments and
promotions in the Police service, at all levels, informed sources of
the Ministry of Law and Order said.
UPFA General Secretary and Fisheries and Aquatic
Resources Development Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said, the SLFP
Parliamentarians in the Joint Opposition (JO) should accept
President Maithripala Sirisena’s invitation at the SLFP Convention
to join the SLFP and commit themselves to strengthen the party and
ensure its victory, if they are true SLFPers.
One woman died and 11 others were injured when
an elephant which was being prepared for the final Perahera at the
Ratnapura Maha Saman Devalaya became aggressive and attacked the
crowds on Friday. J. Leelawathi, (60) of Uda Niriella was pronounced
dead on admission to hospital. According to the Police Media Unit,
she was a heart patient, suffering from hypertension.
Teargas spraying disrupts TNA Paris meeting:
A teargas attack that disrupted a Tamil diaspora
meeting in Paris last week has prompted a call by the Tamil National
Alliance leadership for the diaspora to refrain from violence that
could disturb the on-going peace process in Sri Lanka. A senior
Tamil National Alliance parliamentarian has called on radical
elements in the Tamil Diaspora.
The government will set up new tax collection
counters, on a provincial basis, to take on tax evaders and
streamline revenue collection. The collection counters will take the
responsibility for revenue collection and other relevant matters in
the provinces, a Finance Ministry spokesman, who wished to remain
anonymous, told the Sunday Observer.
