SLT Group Chairman Kumarasinghe Sirisena makes a presentation to Minister Harin Fernando

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) last week launched the first ever Digital Excellence Awards, ‘SLT Zero One Awards for Digital Excellence’ (SLT 01 Awards) to be held in Sri Lanka.

SLT 01 Awards 2016 will recognize and appreciate institutions and individuals as well as brands in their quest for excellence in the field of digital initiatives. The announcement was made at a press conference at the Colombo Hilton Hotel on Tuesday.

Dedicated websites, www.01awards.lk and www.zerooneawards.lk were also launched. Through this initiative, the company aims to champion digital excellence in the country and provide the platform and impetus for growth and innovation of the digital media sector in Sri Lanka.

Chairman of Sri Lanka Telecom Group, P. G. Kumarasinghe Sirisena said, “The digital landscape is becoming increasingly popular in today’s technologically driven society and if used strategically, it can be effectively leveraged to meet the marketing objectives of organizations and businesses.”

“Sri Lanka has come a long way in terms of digital initiatives; however, there is still a need to encourage and support organizations and individuals to embrace digital innovations and make maximum use of what this digital age has to offer, especially in terms of executing marketing strategies and campaigns,” he said.

Group Chief Executive Officer of SLT, Dileepa Wijesundera said, “Sri Lanka Telecom’s digital award is a key catalyst in supporting the digital media development in Sri Lanka. The ‘Zero One’ awards will be open to a wide audience which includes individuals, agencies, SMEs, brands, multinationals and students.” “This is the only platform available today for participants to showcase their talent in the digital media sphere, being an annual event, SLT will continue to play a dominant role in this market,” he said.

Minister of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure, Harin Fernando said, “We are glad of the initiative made by SLT to introduce these awards, which is the only such award campaign that targets such a wide scope of digital marketing activities.”

“I believe that awards such as these will prove instrumental in enhancing and uplifting local talents in the digital field; thus it will prove to be a key contributor towards economic growth by providing organizations and individuals with tremendous opportunities locally as well as internationally through digital innovations,” he said.
