IMEXPRO 2006 to promote Lankan exports and imports

The IMEXPRO 2006 international trade fair organised by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) will be held from March 16-18, 2006 at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall.

The objective of the exhibition is to assist the business community in Sri Lanka and abroad to source suitable business partners and promote Sri Lankan exports and imports.

CCC said IMEXPRO 2006 will be dedicated to fall in line with the vision of the new government to take businesses outside the Colombo and Gampaha districts and assist SMEs. CCC said it will take this as an opportunity to attract FDI to underdeveloped areas outside the Colombo and Gampaha districts by using new incentives introduced by the budget.

This is the third international fair to be organised by the CCC and IMEXPRO 2006 is the second in the series branded under the 'IMEXPRO' banner. IMEXPRO 2003 was the first in the series and it displayed products of over 150 local and foreign organisations represented at the fair.

IMEXPRO 2006 will offer such opportunities under one roof to a spectrum of businesses.

This would especially benefit the public and the private sector to meet the overseas trading community on their home ground and promote their products and services, Tilak De Zoysa, chairman of the IMEXPRO 2006 told a press conference last week.

The exhibition is organised by CCC together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Export Development Board and the Board of Investment.

They have offered 160 stalls to service local and overseas organisations and expect 300 overseas buyers to attend the exhibition.

Coinciding with IMEXPRO 2006, the CCC in partnership with the Economic Chamber of the Czech Republic will host 'Sri Lanka-Czech Interprise,' a two-day match making event at the same venue.

The event is specifically aimed at expanding trade and investment between the two countries. CCC has already received confirmation from 30 Czech companies, interested in setting up joint ventures, industrial or technical collaborations, licensing agreements and outsourcing.

The event offers an opportunity to Sri Lankan companies to establish strategic partnerships with Czech companies at zero cost.

The event will focus on rubber products, energy and environmental technology. This is the first bilateral trade promotion event of this nature organised in Sri Lanka.
