That's Life...

It is said that friends are for life since they are chosen by you (probably as opposed to relatives who are simply dumped on you from the day you were born). Although there is some truth in this it must be said that some psychological defect present in all our brains keeps us from making the best of this superb opportunity to be surrounded only by friends we can tolerate at all times.

For example my good friend Gugu (who just read this over my shoulder and threatened to sue me) has a very volatile mood. The simplest form of displeasure can transform her into someone you will run a mile at the sight of. But the moment she finds good cheer (usually by tormenting a hapless individual, namely everyone around her) she will be seen laughing loud enough to drown the laughs of several people. It is also characteristic of her to indulge in physical harm when her disposition borders on the happy and cheerful.

Then there is my friend Mandz who is well known for her extremely individualistic style of walking. She has the walk of someone who has robbed a bank and is tiptoeing out with the cash. And the most endearing thing about this is that it is quite entertaining to have her walking in late to a lecture which has bored us to bits (Gugu nods her head very vigorously at this).

Everyone in the lecture hall will nod their heads keeping with her bobbing head. But the other side to the story is that we try to pretend she is not with our group when we go out together. So if you see a group of girls holding their sides and laughing at another girl who looks as if she is trying her best not to laugh herself, please do come and say hello to me (I'd be the one with frizzy hair).

Then there is Sona. She is quite a cheerful girl mind you. And although she has her own crooked-yet-model-like walk she is probably well known for her ability to divulge little snippets from secrets you have told her in absolute confidence (or so you thought). She will be talking softly, but if a person connected to your secret walks by Sona will lose no time in making some sort of crack at your secret in an extra loud voice. You will nudge her, but Sona will not even flinch.

Then you will kick her legs hard under the table. She will simply think that you trampled her feet by mistake and she will merely move them out of the way. As a last resort you will hit her head with the biggest book you can find on the table.

She will look surprised and ask you whether some thing is wrong and this is when you will nod your head violently in the direction of the person in question and this is also when Sona will finally get what you have been trying to tell her all this time. But she will merely reassure you saying that she doesn't think she was loud enough to be heard by the aforementioned person in question.

Then there is Chiran who believes that everyone wakes up wishing to go shopping with her. She will sashay to wherever you are seated and will promptly ask you to come shopping with her. It doesn't matter to her that you are sleepy and that you expect to fall down in a faint at any moment. She will not take no. Even if you try to shirk out of things Chiran will raise her eyebrows as if she just can't believe that people who don't really want to shop 24/7 really do exist.

Maybe you just want to get on the bus and go home but Chiran is so highly talented in the trade of getting people to go shopping with her that the next minute will see you trying on clothes in some shop. Now here is the best thing about reluctant shopping with Chiran. Although she will not buy anything you will end up buying something you didn't even think you'd wanted (possibly another blue t-shirt when you already have seven).

I hope you do see that all the eccentricities and individualities of my friends really add up to sew the patchwork of my life (how I hope they'll read this bit). I'd much rather have them instead of predictable friends who have no characteristics of their own. I'm sure you do too. I do hope you enjoy your week with your friends.
