F & G Group sponsors Southern Carlton Supercross 2007
The Tharunya Foundation said that the F&G group will be the principal
sponsor of the Southern Carlton Super Cross 2007 conducted by the
Southern Motor Sports Club at Tissamaharama from January 13-14.
The Southern Carlton Super Cross 2007 will be held at the newly
constructed race track, Ceylon Autodrome, in the Hambantota district.
This gravel race track has been constructed according to
international specifications and will be upgraded to conduct
international race meets such as a FIA sanctioned international Grand
Prix race track by 2010.
The course is 3.4 km in length with a minimum width of 40 ft and an
average width of 60 ft. The pavilion consists of a grandstand with a
seating capacity for 3,000 spectators, a special stand with a seating
capacity for 10,000 for competitors and their supporters and an open
area of 30,000 sq meters for spectators.
Vice Chairman of the Tharunya Foundation Yoshitha Rajapaksa the
organisers of the Southern Carlton Super Cross 2007, said that the race
meet is conducted as part of a fund-raising campaign to construct a well
equipped hospital for the personnel of the armed forces and the police
who are rendering yeomen service for the motherland.
Establishing a dedicated modern hospital will be a fitting tribute to
them and will greatly boost their morale. Rajapaksa said that the
construction for the race track is the first phase of a major
development project planned for the area.

The F&G Group has been associated with a variety of sports including
