Mr. Balasingham: You achieved nothing
LTTE's so called theoretician, Anton Stanislaus
Balasingham, who pioneered the thirty year old terrorism in Sri
Lanka finally closed his eyes on Thursday in the United Kingdom.
Balasingham, the LTTE's chief negotiator at talks that came a long
way from Thimpu to Geneva, could achieve nothing for his
organisation nor the Tamil speaking people of his country of birth.
However, there were instances where he clashed with his mentor,
Velupillai Prabakaran with regard to the issue of devolution under a
federal system. Balasingham confessed to some close friends that
under Prabakaran the Tamil problem would only aggravate.

Vakarai explodes
On Wednesday, Security Forces top brass in
Batticaloa received a tip off from their intelligence circles. It
was about a large number of LTTE cadres, fleeing Vakarai and heading
to Thoppigala, a major jungle base of the LTTE. To reach Thoppigala,
also known as 'Tora bora' in the military circles after the famous
mountain hideout of Osama Bin Laden, the LTTE was required to go
through the government controlled area, crossing the
Batticaloa-Polonnaruwa Road.

Traffic police hailed for uniflow
"We should have done this long ago" - says public
For the first time in Colombo Seven, a three and
a half kilometre stretch today experiences the uniflow traffic
system or as we call it in common parlance - one way traffic. Though
it got off to a bumpy start on Poya day, what with a misinformed
public on whom this nerve testing endeavour went beyond all limits
of endurance, today the team head of this 'trial and error', Senior
Superintendent of Police A.M.G.R. Lafir is all euphoric in that the
operational smooth flow finds symmetry with his mind's objective.
