Feng-Shui:
The importance of improving the 'west' of your home
by Lakmal Welabada
This week the Feng-Shui master, Asiri Wanigaratne will define the
importance of improving the West direction of your home and working
place.

"The West is meant for children. The Chinese believe that if you keep
the West of your home clean and tidy that would affect the behaviour of
one's children. Once one of my Chinese colleagues advised another friend
of his to pay more attention to the West side of his living room when he
complained about the stubbornness of his teenage children," says Asiri.
Metal is the main element for the West, according to the Feng-Shui. A
Wind-chime with six metal tubes hung in the West will enhance the luck
of the children living in that house.
Also, West is the best direction to keep the brass items like brass
lamps and electronic devices like TV sets, VCD-CD-radio set and other
metal elements in your living room. If you have any iron furniture in
your sitting area why not move them towards the West. And not only in
the living room, but also the bedrooms in the West area of the house
should also be improved by keeping it neat and tidy. Also if you have a
store room or a bathroom in the West, keep it clean, tidy and as dry as
possible.
Other than the luck for children, the West is said to bring luck in
wealth as well. When a small clay pot painted in red colour and filled
with coins is kept in the West it will enhance your income. But Asiri
advises to try the 'red pot with coins in the West' after next February
as the Feng-Shui fortune star will move to the West after that time.
Metal (rust), white and gold are the colours for the West. Crystal
Tree is said to bring fortune to the West direction for wealth and
gracefulness.
Since we are talking a lot about children this week let us give a
small hint for the married couples to improve their opportunity to have
children. If you are worried of delay in having a child, let's try this
to see whether it works.
The Laughing God's statue surrounded with children is said to be the
Feng-shui symbol for this purpose. But generally, Laughing God's statues
are placed opposite the main door inside the house to be seen by whoever
enters the premises. So it is the best place if you are willing to try
this out.
