Dissolve Expert Committee - JVP, JHU
by Jayantha Sri Nissanka
The JVP and JHU yesterday called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa to
dissolve the Expert Committee appointed to extend legal expertise to the
All Party Representative Committee (APRC) with immediate effect.
JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe writing a letter to President
Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday informed that the JVP will consider
rejoining the APRC in an endeavour to formulate a solution to the North
and East problem if the Expert Committee is dissolved.
He stressed in his letter that the JVP can not totally be a way from
an effort to formulate a solution to the national question as a
responsible political party.
JHU Policy Formulator Champika Ranawaka told the Sunday Observer that
the Expert Committee has not been entrusted to prepare any report by the
APRC and their report has no any legal validity. He too urged the
President to dissolve the Expert Committee immediately.
Ranawaka noted" the APRC almost reached an agreement on the village
level power devolution but the Expert Committee report torpedoed the
entire process".
He urged that the majority report should not be taken up at the APRC
for any discussion and it should not be influenced when drafting a
devolution package. |
