Troops destroy two bunkers
Troops attacked five bunkers destroying two of them completely at
Nagar Kovil at 9.20 am yesterday.
Defence spokesman Brig. Udaya Nanayakkara said that five LTTE cadres
were killed in the attack. The troops also recovered the body of an LTTE
cadre and seized a T - 56 weapon and four magazines at Nagar Kovil where
the attack took place.
Meanwhile, one LTTE cadre surrendered to the Omanthe police on Friday
at 1.30 p.m. through the ICRC. Meanwhile, Air Force fighter jets bombed
an LTTE boat manufacturing facility in Murukkandy, west of Iranamadu in
the North.
Defence sources said the early morning air raid on the rebel boat
facility near Kilinochchi was carried out after some vital information
was obtained through ground intelligence sources and air surveillances
conducted for a long period.
Intelligence sources revealed that the facility employed mostly
female LTTE cardres. The Defence Ministry reported citing air force
pilots that the target was completely destroyed in the attack.
Sporadic clashes between the soldiers and the LTTE Tigers attempting
to breach the Northern and Wanni Forward Defences in Jaffna. Vavuniya
and Mannar fronts killed at least 19 Tigers and injured many others, the
military said earlier. |
