Architect 2008 exhibition
The Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) will hold the 'Architect
2008' exhibition on February 20 to mark the first annual session of the
SLIA.
Architects who had contributed to the profession and excelled in the
construction industry will receive awards at the event.
Architect Surath Wickramasinghe, a past president of SLIA and founder
president of the Chamber of Construction Industry will be awarded a gold
medal at the event.
The keynote speaker at this year's national conference will be
Architect Ulrick Plesner, the Managing Partner, Plesner Architects,
Israel who had been working with Architect Geoffrey Bawa in Sri Lanka.
The theme of the conference is 'Architect the Initiator'. Around 411
stalls by 260 organisations will showcase local and imported building
materials.
Chairman, National Conference, Architect Jayampathy Herath said the
role of the architect is not limited to designing buildings but leading
the industry with new materials and components needed for the building
industry. The SLIA celebrated its golden jubilee last year.
