Security forces on their way to eradicating terrorism completely
The year 2008 has been earmarked for elimination
of terrorism from the country. It was after the victories achieved
by the Security Forces in the Eastern theatre by fully eradicating
terrorism from the Eastern province the Government and the Security
Forces made this determination at the dawn of the year to make all
their efforts to achieve this target within the year.

The continuous military pressure on the LTTE has
pushed the outfit into a dilemma, where they are now facing lots of
difficulties in recruitment, re-organising and strengthening the
fire power, the Director General of the Civil Defence Force Rear
Admiral, Sarath Weerasekara said adding that the LTTE terrorists
would disappear soon.

25 civil committees to be set up islandwide
Twenty-five Civil Committees will be set up
countrywide in the most vulnerable places prone to terrorist attacks
such as bus stands, railway stations, schools and housing complexes
to protect persons and property. Of the proposed 25 committees, 14
will be set up in Colombo, Senior Supdt.of Police, I.M. Karunaratne,
Director of the Community Police Unit told the 'Sunday Observer'.
