Feelings and Imaginations

Anita
Kalani Haputantri, a dentist by profession is on the other hand a
talented artist who spouts out her artistic talents through what she
feels and imagines. Caricatures are her main form of art. She uses her
hands on a canvas with oils, water colours, pastels or charcoal; or else
on a ball of clay to pour out her imaginations.
"I have been painting since I was a kid. My mother, Consy
Goonetilleke was the art teacher of St.Paul's Milagiriya Girls School,
and she was my teacher as well", says Anitha.
"It's relaxing and great. I never let the paint brush fall apart from
my hand even I studied in the science stream. I won first place in many
art competitions as a child," reminisces Anitha.
Anitha studied at Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya. She has been in
the dental profession for the past six years. Married and a mother of
two, Anitha says finding time for her art work is not possible. "I
believe that if there is a will there is a way, and try to do both with
best of my abilities," she thinks.
Anitha's art work mainly on caricatures, but she also does portraits
as well. Anitha hopes to hold her own art exhibition at Alliance,
Colombo from April 3 until the end of the month.
