John Keells awards scholarships for undergraduates
The John Keells Social Responsibility Foundation launched a scheme to
grant scholarships to students reading for an Honours degree of Bachelor
of Science in Transport and Logistics Management (BSc (T&LM) Hons.) at a
ceremony at the Cinnamon Grand.
Speaking on behalf of John Keells Holdings PLC, Romesh David,
President, Transportation and IT Groups, said, "JKH is delighted to have
found a partner as responsive and proactive as we are in the University
of Moratuwa.
In addition to fully sponsoring the English language program and the
mentoring program for all first year undergraduates, JKH has undertaken
to award scholarships to students in all four years of the degree
program.
For students in the first year we offer up to five scholarships based
on economic need. In the second, third and fourth years we award in each
year seven scholarships to the students based on academic excellence and
involvement in extracurricular activities. When all four batches are in
place this will amount to 26 scholarships a year.
Additionally, we have made a commitment to place at least five
students from each graduating batch in a John Keells Group company." He
said, "I hope we have helped to make the path a little clearer and the
future a little brighter.
The rest is up to you. For those of you who seize all that is on
offer the opportunities for achievement will be endless."
The inaugural awards ceremony for the John Keells Holdings English
Language Program for the undergraduates was also held at this event. |
