Golden Jubilee 'Battle of the Babes' March 28 and 29

CRICKET: 50th Battle of the 'Babes' between Vidyartha and St. Sylvester's Kandy will be played on the 28th and 29th of March at the Asgiriya International Cricket stadium.

In the 49 encounters that have been played so far, St. Sylvester's are in the lead with 12 wins while Vidyartha have 3 wins with 34 encounters ending in draws.

Among the cricketers produced by the St. Sylvester's in the past are Nimal Samarasekera, Anton, Malcolm and Ronald Perera (all brothers), Tudor Gunaratne, Mervyn Rodrigo, Parakrama Jayasinghe, Jayathilake brothers and Colombage brothers to name a few.

Vidyartha college has produced players in the Calibre of Thushara, brothers, Chamara and Chaminda Kodikara, K. Bowatte, Sunil Munasinghe, Kosala Gunasekera, R. M. Lafeer (now DIG), K. Boruppa and C. Gajanayake (now DIG), to name a few.

Vidyartha team is led by Nadun Chaturanga Basnayake, 5th year player and a fine allrounder. He is being supported by senior players like Sachitra Wijekoon, Maduka Weerasekera, Dililina Kaushalya and Sameera Abeyratne.

St. Sylvester's are led by the dashing batsman Mohamed Feshal, 5th year player and a centurian. He is well supported by senior players like Roshan Jayatissa, Chanaka Silva, Yasheera Shanuka and Chanaka Colombage.
