A group of people from Arklow, a village in Ireland reached Sri Lanka
a few months after the tsunami, seeking a tsunami devastated coastal
village with the intention of providing humanitarian assistance.
On their fact finding mission they came to Balapitiya and found that
promoting the means of livelihood for youth was an urgent issue.
As a result of their visit, today a ‘state-of-the-art’ Vocational
Training College funded by the Arklow Villagers in Ireland could be seen
as a monument of architectural excellence on a stretch of land full of
scenic beauty at Balapitiya in close proximity to Madhu River.
Professional training is provided at this Vocational Training College
for the young on Beauty Culture, Information Technology, Spoken English,
Cake Decorating, Western Music and Dress Making. In addition an English
medium Pre-School is also functioning smoothly affiliated to the
Training College at Balapitiya. |
