Shoulder length straight, straight fringe and box cut are some of the
latest ladies hair styles in vogue in Sri Lanka, according to Kamal
Hettiarachchi, the Chief Hair Dresser of Ramani Fernando Salon situated
at Taj Lanka Hotel who said, these were creations that had been updated
by him to suit an individual’s face.
“These styles, seen in various shapes, have caught up in the local
market for the last one year,” revealed Kamal who claimed that he did
around 10 styles a day.
Notably, the fringe style has the biggest draw of about 80 per cent.
Kamal said long layer and texturised hair cut that gave a softer look
was of dual purpose.
It could also be worn curly or straight. It emphasised the cut as
demonstrated by Narmada’s hair cut.
The ‘layered hair cut’ upto shoulder length as demonstrated by Nicola
was thoroughly layered to get the end effect of softer feathers in
Kamal’s words giving movement to the hair covering the face.
“This particular hair cut is suitable for people with straight hair,”
explained Kamal who has 19 years experience in the profession. The ‘box
cut’ as demonstrated by Vileshka, is more suitable for those with
straight hair cut to shoulder length in long, straight fringe.
It can be set in a curly way too, he said.Kamal, who has been with
Ramani Fernando for the last 18 years, started his career under Janet
Balasuriya and is one of the most sought after professionals in the
trade having a longstanding international experience as well.
While he has worked in the Middle East, he has fine tuned this art
from what he has gained meeting the world-famed hair dressing experts
Paul Mitchell and Tony and Guy whom he met at a world championship event
in Chicago, and also by attending workshops in the Netherlands,
Indonesia to Korea.Kamal has a dream of bringing together the top five
in the local hair dressing industry Ramani, Janet, Ramzi Rahaman, Nayana
Karunaratne and Harris Wijesinghe.
This he hopes to do by organising an annual ‘hair dressers ball.’ But
for this he is in need of a sponsor and is keeping his fingers crossed. |
