Environment Ministry to mark President's anniversary

A series of events to commemorate seven years of President Mahinda Rajapaksa's presidency organised by the Ministry of Environment will be held in Kurunegala.

A green garden will be set up in Kurunegala on the banks of the Deduru Oya today by the Ministry along with a tree planting event. Suitable trees for river banks such as 'Kumbuk' and 'Mee' will be planted on a two-and-a-half kilometre stretch on the right bank of the Deduru Oya in Kurunegala.

Drinking water facilities worth nearly Rs. 15 million will also be provided to the Nagollagama Maha Vidyalaya by the Solid Waste Management Project of the Environment Ministry.The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau will donate computers to Embalegoda Vidyalaya in Kurunegala. The State Timber Corporation will donate 100 desks and chairs for the primary section of the school and another 200 school desks and chairs to higher grades.
