PSC finds Chief Justice guilty
The Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) having
examined the verbal and written evidence against Chief Justice Shirani
Bandaranayake has found her guilty of charges 1, 4 and 5. The PSC does
not find her guilty of charges 2 and 3 due to lack of sufficient
evidence. The committee has further decided that in view of the very
grave nature of the charges. 1, 4 and 5 it will be a futile exercise to
seek evidence to convict her on charges 2 and 3.

Budget 2013 passed with majority of 101 votes

a majority of 101 votes. The Appropriation Bill 2013 received 158 votes

TNA to hold fresh talks soon
The Tamil National Alliance TNA will hold fresh
talks soon with the Government heeding President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s
request to return to the negotiating table. Parliamentarian M.A.
Sumanthiran told the Sunday Observer that they would take part in
discussions with the Government. At tea, during the Budget speech, the

Opposition and NGO activists get new lease of life
The President said he had the utmost respect for the
Judiciary. He said today, with the dawn of peace, anyone had the freedom
to express their opinions and move about anywhere freely. However this
was not the case sometime back. The President was speaking to a
gathering which included ministers, MPs, businessmen, artistes and the
public in Welipenna in the Southern Expressway, after opening the newly
